2 sensational nights, one ‘hidden gem’ of a venue!

St Andrew’s Weekend (29 and 30 November) is the STUC anti racism weekend and we have a Friday and Saturday night that will make you want to pitch up at the ACC and never leave again!

Friday night we can hardly believe our guest DJ is going tobe the Founder, Keyboard Player and Main Songwriter from THE SPECIALS, the legend that is Jerry Dammers. All the info you need is here.

Saturday 30th will see us getting to bed about 5am and arising again about 10 to get to the STUC Anti Racism Rally starting atGlasgow Green. Well, we can’t spend half our lives at the African Caribbean Centre and NOT march against racism can we?

Saturday night we’re back in with a St Andrew’s Night celebration that we reckon is probably unique. The joint organisers of this party are National Collective (Creatives and Artists for Independence) and Africans for an Independent Scotland. And what you will be treated to is performers from both organisations sharing Scottish, African AND Caribbean Culture. What better way to fight racism than to bring everyone together for what will be a fantastic night?

So join us for all or one of the above this coming St Andrew’s Weekend. We look forward to welcoming you.

Friday 29th Jerry Dammers from The Specials is our DJ!!!

Eventbrite - Jerry Dammers (The Specials) playing Jamaican Ska (DJ Set)

Yes you heard right, the legendary Jerry Dammers from The Specials is our guest DJ at the Jamaican SKA night on Friday 29th November. He’ll be supported by emerging Glasgow ska band The Mitre 5s. Jerry has many feathers to his bow. He is responsible for the two tone British ska although these days (and on Friday night) he concentrates on the real rootsy ska music from Jamaica.

He’s also the man who penned “Free Nelson Mandela” as in “Free-ee-ee Nelson Mandela”, an unforgettable tribute to someone who features on most people’s ‘heroes list’ J
Anyway, our excitement is making us ramble.

The ticket allocation is limited. If you’ve never been to the African Caribbean Centre we’re a comparatively intimate venue on the edge of the Merchant City. Intimate means you’ll get up close to the man himself. But it also means you have to be quick to get your tickets. We’ve tried to keep it as affordable as possible for everyone but that could also mean tickets go fast.

So, you can buy your tickets at The Guitar Store on Argyle Street or Tickets Scotland also on Argyle Street in Glasgow. Or you can follow this Eventbrite link and buy online. Choosing any of these options will cost you just 8 pounds.

We’re keeping back 30 tickets for selling on the door on the night and they will be ten pounds each.
Any questions just email Anne or Graham on accglasgow@gmail.com or call Graham on 07855 303 604.

Sat 30th Scots / African / Caribbean Night

This will be a very special St Andrew’s Night. As part of the STUC St Andrew’s Anti-Racism Weekender we are bringing together NationalCollective and Graham Campbell and Africans for an Independent Scotland. They will each be providing some fantastic live acts and if you fancy joining them there will be a 30 minute open mic slot so email us on accglasgow@gmail.com if you want to book a place.

You’ll also have the chance to sample African, Caribbean andScottish food from just 2.50 for a plate. And the bar will be well stocked and reasonably priced. So with a donation of a fiver to get it we reckon you won’t find a better value or more fun St Andrew’s Night anywhere in Scotland.

We look forward to welcoming you.
