Something different - Habeshian PARTY this Saturday

Reggae Night on Saturday 7th July with the legendary Bass Warrior

FREE CONCERT from BBC Award winning London gospel choir

In 2010 the girls at Maria Fidelis Convent School in London decided they wanted to enter the BBC Songs of Praise School Choir of the Year. Only trouble was, they didn't have a choir!

So they formed one. A gospel choir. Lead by the renowned "powerhouse of inspiration and energy", gospel conductor Karen Gibson, they won! Click here to find out why!

Since then they've performed for Pope Benedict XVI , the Queen, Prince Charles and Clarence B Jones who was co-speech writer with Martin Luther King!

And now, they're coming to Glasgow for one night only and performing a FREE GOSPEL CONCERT at the African Caribbean Centre in the Merchant City.

So come along, bring your children, your friends, family, neighbours and enjoy this free hour long concert. Tea, coffee, soft drinks available if you wish to buy from our cafe.

If so .... come along next Saturday to the African Caribbean Centre in Glasgow's Merchant City and enjoy our Saturday morning cinema, courtesy of Africa in Motion.

Here's whats on ..

BHOVAS AND SAM

(Ntuli: South Africa): This animation serial follows the misadventures of Bhovas and Sam, two hugely talented and much loved township musicians/rap artists caught between a rock and a hard place. Their journey is a fable for the new South Africa, set in the world of poor wannabes with real talent being ripped off.

TINGA TINGA TALES (3 episodes:)

A TV series made in Kenya inspired by traditional animal stories from Africa and the Tingatinga
artwork of Tanzania. Explore the Tinga Tinga Tales safari!

ZEBU AND THE PHOTOFISH

(Nyaruri: Uganda: 2011): Ten-year-old Zebu is struggling to look up to his fisherman father as his hero, ever since he stopped bringing fish home. Zebu’s father is paying a big debt to a businessman in the village who bailed him from being locked up in jail. The story is an allegory of the poor fishermen for whom fish is a luxury.

SANKAMBE CHRISTACOPOULOS

South Africa. Sankambe is a greedy, grasping musical rabbit who gets his comeuppance when he sings about his treachery.

Everyone is welcome. No connection to Africa or the Caribbean is necessary, we'd love to see you.

Let's get Afrocentric People!

Lega Ntertainment returns for their monthly club night at the African Caribbean Centre on Friday 6th July. This event is growing in popularity and it's hotting up so don't miss out on a bit of RnB, Dancehall, Bashment, Funky House. Bar open from 9am till 2am.

Wanna know why Afrocentric is such a great night? We think the key to the success of this monthly club night is the mix of people lots of Africans and lots of Scottish people (as well as many other nationalities who make Glasgow such a  cosmopolitan city) mixing together, sharing in African music, eating African food, drinking imported African beers and having as chilled or as exciting a time as they choose. No pressure to dance. No pressure to stop.

Wanna see what Afrocentric looks like? Loads of pics here at this link.

Costs - £6 entry only but if you want Suya, a traditional hot n spicy Nigerian beef dish, it's an extra £5. Look out for our special offer coming up on itison.com soon.

Celebrate DRC Independence Day with the launch of our new night - CLUB AFRICA!!!

We're overly excited about this one. We've been waiting a long time for Bassa Beat to join us at the African Caribbean Centre and now they have, we're not short of volunteers to work at the launch night.

So, on Independence Day for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Bassa Beat presents to you ... CLUB AFRICA.

"Unashamedly .... completely ..... utterly ...... uncompromisingly ...... authentically ...... AFRICAN" is how they describe their night ...

Which is funny because that's EXACTLY what the African Caribbean Centre is.

So, a better meeting of minds and bodies you won't find in Glasgow that night.

Featuring DJs and a live acoustic set.

Entry is £5 and it's on Saturday 30th June. 8pm to 2am.

Every month Club Africa will celebrate something different about Africa. Tonight it's Independence Day for the DRC and we'll have many DRC friends joining us to celebrate.

"This is going to be THE night to be at in Glasgow on the 30th" says Graham Campbell, Co-ordinator for the ACC (and the one who's been desperate to get Bassa Beat on board).

Eritrea comes to Glasgow

This Saturday, 23rd June, from 4pm onwards join members of the Eritrean Community and share in their culture. Fun for all the family with dance, singing and food. Live DJs and live performances from 7pm when the reasonably priced bar opens. Entry by donation and it's on here at the African Caribbean Centre, 66 Osborne Street, behind the Tron Theatre.

This is a Refugee Week event.

NEW African Cinema - and it's FREE!

Don't say we're not good to you at the African Caribbean Centre. In May, along with Africa in Motion we showed the Zimbabwean film Flame and we've decided to make it a regular event.

So the next two screenings are Saturday 23rd June and Saturday 21st July both at 11am and both in the African Caribbean Centre, 66 Osborne St (behind the Tron Theatre).

These next two screenings are aimed at children and young people but that's no reason for adults to stay away. If you're African it'll remind you of home. If you're not, there are a few treats in store.

Saturday 23rd June movies are ...

TREE OF SPIRITS

(Sawadogo: Burkina Faso: 2005): This wonderous story takes place between the ancient world of spirits and the modern world of environmental issues in Africa. In the Savannas, Kodou and Tano meet Ayoka, the guardian of a beautiful ancient tree threatened by a ruthless businessman who intends to cut it down. Kodou and Akoya discover that the baobab is the passage between two worlds – the spiritual world and the world of humans. The liminal area between those two worlds is where the future of the land will be decided.

LEZARE

(Wolemariam: Ethiopia: 2010): Based on an Ethiopian folk tale, Lezare is a revealing and
touching story about a homeless boy in a small village in Southern Ethiopia. This beautifully shot film conveys a powerful message about global warming, environmental protection, poverty and hunger.

JULY SCREENINGS - 21st July 11am

(Ntuli: South Africa): This animation serial follows the misadventures of Bhovas and Sam, two hugely talented and much loved township musicians/rap artists caught between a rock and a hard place.
